CORRIGE

What does American Sport tell us about the USA?
Americans love sports. From Baseball to football, basketball, ice hockey, golf and soccer, sports play an important role in American culture
They are a foundation of the School System.
They have become a multi-million dollar industry with followers all over the world.
At the same time, they have contributed to racial and social integration.

WHILE the father seems to be playing classical music, the teenagers are probably bored
because they prefer to play rock'n roll music.
CONTRARY TO his dad, the son isn't fond of classical music.
The mom would like her husband to leave the boys alone WHEREAS he has no clue
he's boring them to death.
UNLIKE the father, the teenagers don't enjoy themselves/ have fun.

link the internet/elderly people
Seniors are learning how to use computers and how to surf the internet.
Their teachers are volunteering teenagers.
I think this project is great because it connects people: not only can elderly people
keep in touch with their relatives, but they learn new things while sharing quality
time with their teenage teachers.
A project to help the elderly

L'EXPRESSION DU CONTRASTE
Friday, September 18th FAMILY MATTERS : séance 2 + 2bis
Séance 2bis : suite "Generation Gap" Students Comments + READING
autonomy/frustration/rules/respect
While teenagers are looking for more autonomy, parents focus on the respect of their rules, and this creates a lot of frustration.
conflict / agreements
Conflict often occurs between teenagers and adults; it's often based upon the development of individualism.
Instead of conflict, we should work on agreements.
READING TIME: "A Father & A Son" (worksheet)
Picture Comments : 1/ description (+ 2/interpretation + 3/ analysis)
CAN + verbe de perception : I can hear… I can see…
We can see a teenage boy in the foreground and two people in the background, a man and a woman who probably are his parents.
The parents are looking at the boy but the boy is not looking at his parents.
DESCRIPTION > présent be + ing
He looks unhappy / sad / disgusted / upset / stressed Apparence : LOOK + adjectif
I think the relationship between the boy and the parents is not good.
VIDEO (trailer of the movie « Kings of Summer »)
The film shows the relationship between Joe and his father. Joe’s dad seems rather strict (as he tells his son « My house, my rules »), and Joe is fed up with him.
There is quite a lot of tension, so that Joe decides to escape from home / to run away.
He has a plan : building a house in the woods with his friends.
>he wants to build his house in order to have his own rules.
GENERATION GAP
What kind of gap is that ? an emotional/psychological gap
Young and older people differ on : values / ideals / attitudes / experiences
MISE EN COMMUN DU BRAINSTORMING:
Family Matters…but does it ?
Does family matter to you ? to teenagers ?
Yes, it does… but not as much as it used to matter whan we were younger…
Consequence > the Generation Gap !
There’s a lack of trust between teenagers and their parents ; sometimes, teenagers feel the need to lie in order to have more freedom. But lying may worsen this lack of trust !
When teenagers have different opinions, another kind of world view, parents often have a hard time accepting it ; why ? because parents are reluctant to change…
